My Visit with Ja’Maal – Eye Lash Guru to the Stars!
I received an email a few days ago and I could not believe my eyes! Ja’Maal Buster sent me an email saying he will be in New York City this week and he would love for me to come in and get my eyelashes done. I hurried and checked my schedule to see when I could go. I replied to Ja’Maal saying 3:30 on Saturday would be perfect. He said cool. It was a date.
Lucky for me, Robin said she had a wax appointment in the city at the same time and would drop me off for my “date” with Ja’Maal. Well, driving with Robin is quite an experience. She texts, talks on the phone, and drives simultaneously. To say I was a little nervous is an understatement. We made it just in time for my appointment at The Damone Robert’s Salon on 5th Ave. I took the tiniest elevator to the 6th floor. When the doors opened up, I walked right into the salon. I looked over and saw Ja’Maal. He looked exactly the same as his picture. Sporting his wild hair, skinny jeans and high boots. We hugged hello and I was ready for my transformation.
He told me to lie back in the chair and hold a small hand fan. He said this will help the glue dry faster. While he was applying each lash quickly and accurately, I had to ask him a bunch of questions. He told me his most recent news- He is going to be on Martha Stewart in February. So naturally I asked who his publicist was and how did he get the gig? He told me it was with his splendid personality that he met Martha. At a recent party, she walked past him. He said hello and she said hello back. Martha knew the woman that Ja’Maal is friends with. She noticed how beautiful her lashes are and asked about them. She pointed to Ja’Maal and the rest is history. He told her how he would love to do her lashes and she invited him on her show and to meet with the producers. This is so cool. I am so happy for him. Ja’Maal definitely possess a lot of confidence and personality when you meet him. After about 20-25 minutes he was finished with the lashes. He handed me the mirror and I was just amazed of the difference. He said they could last up to 2 weeks- but probably closer to 7-10 days. I then told him I wanted an after picture with him.
He said he needed his brows fixed before he would take the picture. So he went toArmond and he put him in his chair. While he was getting his brows groomed, I looked around the salon. Everyone was really warm and friendly. I loved it. After Ja’Maal was done, I asked Armond for a touch up. He said sure honey! I reclined in his chair while he brushed and examined my brows. He then said, “Is it OK for me to wax and trim them?” OK? Are you kidding? Go to town! And that is what he did. He was very busy waxing, cutting, brushing and filling. While he was doing his magic, I had a chance to get the dirt from Armond. He told me how important your brows are. It is really the focal part of your face and a must. I told him I could not agree more and often tell people the same. When I asked about people who have very little to no brows at all, he said, “paint em on darling- paint em on!” He recommends getting your brows groomed every 5-6 weeks. He also is a big believer of filling them in, as do I. He used a taupe colored powder with an angled brush to fill in some tiny spaces in my brows. He also added some highlighter along my brow bone. This combo is very similar to our Brow Quad. If you own this already, you know how incredible it works.
Since I had Armond’s full attention, I started to ask him some more gossipy questions. I needed to know who is most famous clients were. He easily gave me the name Beyonce! AAAAHHHH!!! You know I just love Beyonce! He did her brows for her wedding and for her most recent album cover. He said she is lovely. He also does Janet and Latoya Jackson’s brows too. He said the Jackson’s are very nice people too. So I am one degree of separation from Beyonce and Janet- pretty cool.
When he finished, he too handed me the mirror- WOW- did they come out great. I just loved it – especially with the combo of the lashes. I did not even have any eye makeup on. Check out the pictures on our website- they are very cool. I took a ton of pictures and raced out of there to meet Robin.
While walking to meet her- I got stuck in a people traffic jam on 5th avenue. I almost forgot were I was- until I came upon the Tree at Rockefeller Center! Stopped and took a quick picture and resumed to walking quickly- feeling very cool with my “new eyes”. Robin loved how it came out. Somehow I made it home- while Robin continued to text, call, drive, and whatever else she can manage to do at the same time!
Today- I showed Stacey, Barri, Sue, Ian, Lisa, and my mom- all with rave revues! If you see me around town this week- take a look and let me know what you think!
