My Top 10 Holiday Movies
Last Night, I was flipping though the channels and stumbled upon the movie “The Family Stone”. (As an aside, I never see this movie from the beginning- only catch the last half hour every time.) My husband comes in and says- I hate holiday setting movies. I thought this was an awfully strong statement, so I started to rattle off a few of my favorite holiday movies…so I thought of a blog topic.
My top 10 holiday movies are (in no particular order):
1. Elf- I just love this movie. I laugh every time I watch it. It is a great premise and I really believe Will Farrell is an elf. My favorite scene is when he is liquored up in the mailroom. It is also great because you can watch it with the kids.
2. Love Actually- I was wondering when they would start playing this over and over. As I have said before, this is one of my favorite movies. It is a corny, romantic, funny and clever. If you haven’t seen it, great Sunday afternoon with popcorn type of movie.
3. Christmas Story- Again, another movie that will be in high gear marathon mode any day now. Till this day, as I watch it, I always anticipate if he will get that be be gun. My kids don’t get this movie. Maybe I will make them watch it again this year!
4. Rudolf The Red Nose Reindeer (the original- not Rudolf saves Christmas, Rudolf has a baby, Rudolf goes to Florida, etc.) Again, I think I believe this is real. I always think- maybe this is the time he will be able to fly or his nose won’t light up. It is a great story with a terrific ending- Pure classic Christmas.
5.A Charlie Brown Christmas (again the original). Maybe this year Charlie will get a big grand beautiful tree. I have been watching this one since I was a kid and continue to enjoy it since.
6. March of the Wooden Soldiers- Laurel and Hardy. This movie reminds me of my father. He would always tell me when it is on and would watch it with me. Maybe this year he should remind me when it is on- I would like to see it again.
7. Home Alone- though you can watch this classic any time of the year- this is a holiday movie. Leaving their son at home during Christmas, when their large family leaves on vacation. It is very unique, funny, heart warming and you can remember why people really liked Macaulay Culkin.
8. It’s a Wonderful Life- yes I still cry when I watch this movie. I am a pathetic sappy fag, so sue me!
9. The Grinch who Stole Christmas- Cartoon version. I always loved all those Dr. Suess cartoons as a kid. I can watch about 5 minutes worth of the Jim Carey version.
10. The Year without a Santa Clause – Yes, who can resist the heat miser? I loved this one since the first time I saw it- with catchy tunes like “I’m Mr. heat Miser, I ‘m Mr. Sun. I’m Mr. Heat Miser, I’m Mr. 101.
Well that is my top 10. As an aside- I have never seenMiracle on 34th street. Maybe I will try this year.

I can’t believe we are more than half way through November. I feel like Scrooge. I am not a big fan on the holiday season. With the cold weather creeping in and the early dark nights- Blah blah blah. Not happy at all. I miss my long hot summer days and having the energy to go out almost every night. Winter is approaching, and I can’t wait to creep into bed and some ridiculously early hour- blah blah blah.
Well, what is the good news about winter and the holidays? Fashion, makeup, and holiday parties! Yeah!! Maybe I am coming out of my depression? Ok here it goes.
LOVE to wear cool party clothes. I wore a pair of really nice velvet jeans the other night with a black and gold tank and bronze/gold shoes. I actually dug this out of my closet and really like it. I think I will be wearing this combo this season. It was comfortable, yet I felt dressed up enough. So, before you run to the store looking for a great funky outfit to wear to the up coming Christmas party, check out your closets first. You can always add a great piece of jewelry, sexy heels, and bold bangles to dress it up. With the way the economy is now, I think everyone is feeling the crunch. But you may do very well just up dating some classic pieces. My friend Barri recently went shopping for an outfit for her recent party. The census from her husband and kids was that they liked the top from Target better than the expensive top from Ann Taylor- Beauty! What a score.
Great News! Our new holiday palettes just came in at Loose Lips New York. They come in two great colors- Neutral Eyes and Smoky Eyes. My mom loves a good makeup kit- so I showed it to her first. She absolutely loved it. When she asked me the price- I was not sure. There is over $80 worth of product inside- including 3 eye shadows, 1 blush glow, 1 blush, 1 glitter pencil and oil control powder. She said people would buy more if it is $30. I thought that was awfully low- but said I would do it for a limited time. She went home with her neutral eyes kit and called me the next day. She loved it and said I probably should charge more! It is well worth it. I figure I will stay with my plan and charge less for a “pre season” deal. The colors are really great. It is our latest must have. I think it would also make a wonderful gift too. I seem to be using it for day and evening. Use the darker colors to add a more glamorous smoky look for evening. You can also add a little shimmer with our Indispensable Glow too. Love this for a party.
Holiday parties also bring out holiday eating and drinking- be careful! If you are like me around the hord’vors, this is a very dangerous season. I wish I could tell you my top secret of how I avoid over eating mini hot dogs, shrimp and little egg rolls. I would love to tell you I drink a huge glass of water and eat an apple before going out. I would love to tell you that those foods sicken me and that I prefer carrot sticks. I cannot tell a lie- love them all. Love to drink too. So what do I do? I try to make sure I get to the gym and work out as much as possible. Figure if I burn some extra calories, I can indulge a little more. Also- when I am not exposed to the delights of a party- I really try to watch what I am eating. Kind of save up your calories for the big day. Let me know if you have any big secrets- would love to share them!
Next time- Holiday shopping- Yuck!
