I wanted to share some of my recent favorite things that I have stumbled upon in the last few weeks.
Sugar Free Jell-O-Pudding – Flavor Rice Pudding-Cinnamon. Well, I have probably had most of the sugar free- reduced fat etc. Jell-o’s and Puddings. They are not bad. But for the first time I can say I really like and enjoy the Rice Pudding Cinnamon flavor. I have tried the plain rice pudding and that is OK. But this cinnamon for some reason has a better consistency and taste. Definitely give it a try. For only 70 calories and 10% calcium, I think it is a good snack.
Dirty Dozen Classes at Eastern Athletic- Sunday 9 am. What I have enjoyed about this quick but grueling class is that John, the instructor, seems to change it up each week. You also hit different body parts. When you feel like you are dying after 15 minutes of the class, you think- Hey- I can last another 15 minutes and when it is over- You have received a great little workout. I always seem to be sore the next day. (In a good way!)
Hoodie from Over the Edge. This week I wore my cute white thermal hoodie from the ladies of Over The Edge. It is a black imprint of a skull on it. (I am definitely more skull than peace signs) I think I wore it one day to work, then pulled it out of the laundry to wear as a cover up at the gym, then wound up wearing it to do errands. So I definitely got my use out of it. I just washed it, and it came out great. Thumbs up to Over the Edge.
Stop and Shop Smoked Almonds. I accidentally purchased smoked instead of roasted almonds last week. I thought they would be totally gross, but I actually like them. Again for a quick snack/pick me up- it really did the trick.
Lean Cusine BBQ Chicken Pizza. I am always a big fan of Lean Cusine Pizza. This Flat style pizza is quite tasty and very satisfying. Just pop in the microwave for 4 minutes and you have a great lunch or dinner.
Eye Shadow Trio in Cinn-ti-Late. I have been wearing the medium and light color from this practical eye shadow trio. Put the light color on the brow followed by the medium color on the lid for a quick and pretty neutral day look. To spice it up, I either add the darkest shade in the crease or add a little Ultimate Eye Shadow Shimmer in Buff for a little more spizazz. All from Loose Lips New York.
PJ’s from Target- I really like the Gilligan and O’Malley brand of PJ’s at Target. I am a big fan of the silky style bottoms. Cute and comfortable is what I like. I bought a pair for my mom. She is complaining that she is “too warm” at night and needs something cool and comfortable. For the frigid- they make cozy cotton and snuggly flannel types too. The price point is unbeatable and can make a good gift too. I have also washed mine 100 times and they seem to be lasting. You can also par ooze the sale rack- it can be dirt-cheap if you are lucky!
The new song- “All the Single Ladies” by Beyonce. When I hear this song, I can’t stop bopping around in my car. Great spunky tune. So much fun.
The Biggest Loser- Finally my favorite show was great again. Love the makeover addition! I definitely started to tear up when their family/love ones showed up on the set of Tyra. Big fan of Michelle. I think she looks gorgeous. I am rooting for her.
Until more favorites…

I can’t believe we are more than half way through November. I feel like Scrooge. I am not a big fan on the holiday season. With the cold weather creeping in and the early dark nights- Blah blah blah. Not happy at all. I miss my long hot summer days and having the energy to go out almost every night. Winter is approaching, and I can’t wait to creep into bed and some ridiculously early hour- blah blah blah.
Well, what is the good news about winter and the holidays? Fashion, makeup, and holiday parties! Yeah!! Maybe I am coming out of my depression? Ok here it goes.
LOVE to wear cool party clothes. I wore a pair of really nice velvet jeans the other night with a black and gold tank and bronze/gold shoes. I actually dug this out of my closet and really like it. I think I will be wearing this combo this season. It was comfortable, yet I felt dressed up enough. So, before you run to the store looking for a great funky outfit to wear to the up coming Christmas party, check out your closets first. You can always add a great piece of jewelry, sexy heels, and bold bangles to dress it up. With the way the economy is now, I think everyone is feeling the crunch. But you may do very well just up dating some classic pieces. My friend Barri recently went shopping for an outfit for her recent party. The census from her husband and kids was that they liked the top from Target better than the expensive top from Ann Taylor- Beauty! What a score.
Great News! Our new holiday palettes just came in at Loose Lips New York. They come in two great colors- Neutral Eyes and Smoky Eyes. My mom loves a good makeup kit- so I showed it to her first. She absolutely loved it. When she asked me the price- I was not sure. There is over $80 worth of product inside- including 3 eye shadows, 1 blush glow, 1 blush, 1 glitter pencil and oil control powder. She said people would buy more if it is $30. I thought that was awfully low- but said I would do it for a limited time. She went home with her neutral eyes kit and called me the next day. She loved it and said I probably should charge more! It is well worth it. I figure I will stay with my plan and charge less for a “pre season” deal. The colors are really great. It is our latest must have. I think it would also make a wonderful gift too. I seem to be using it for day and evening. Use the darker colors to add a more glamorous smoky look for evening. You can also add a little shimmer with our Indispensable Glow too. Love this for a party.
Holiday parties also bring out holiday eating and drinking- be careful! If you are like me around the hord’vors, this is a very dangerous season. I wish I could tell you my top secret of how I avoid over eating mini hot dogs, shrimp and little egg rolls. I would love to tell you I drink a huge glass of water and eat an apple before going out. I would love to tell you that those foods sicken me and that I prefer carrot sticks. I cannot tell a lie- love them all. Love to drink too. So what do I do? I try to make sure I get to the gym and work out as much as possible. Figure if I burn some extra calories, I can indulge a little more. Also- when I am not exposed to the delights of a party- I really try to watch what I am eating. Kind of save up your calories for the big day. Let me know if you have any big secrets- would love to share them!
Next time- Holiday shopping- Yuck!

Here it is, almost the middle of October and I was thinking of all the things I need to do for fall. It is way into the 70’s here in NY- who would believe it is an autumn day. As I was sunning myself in my friend Stacey’s backyard today, I was thinking I must get ready for fall! So I applied my Pumpkin Peel to get me in the mood and decided to start blogging.
I have put out my Halloween decorations and took my son to purchase his costume- Hooray. Yes- they had what he wanted in the first store we went to. I was even more thrilled than he was.
Now for me….
Shopping! One of the most important parts about fall- fall clothes. First off, you must clean out those damn closets and drawers first. Please get rid of items that are out of style, ripped and stained. Also get rid of clothes that do not fit. Yes, you might have to try on those size 4 jeans that you wore for 1 week after having a stomach virus and the flu. If they do not fit- please get rid of them. Occasionally you might find an item that you forgot you had. On my recent cleaning binge, I found a cute red cocktail dress that I had from many years ago. I zipped it up, and wal-la! I have a new dress. Wore it to a wedding 3 weeks ago, and it looked fabulous. Once you have cleaned, sorted and folded- it is time to go shopping.
Fill in on classic pieces- turtlenecks, a good fitting pair of jeans, a basic blazer, long sleeve t-shirts/ thermals, Juicy style sweat pants and a simple sweater.
Then it is time to purchase a couple of fun trendy items. A funky top that you can match with up with a pair of jeans or dressy black pants or skirt is a good idea. I bought a great Susana Monaco top in a burnt orange for this purpose. I also bought a funky top by Skye too. You will also need some boots this season. Yes, Uggs are still in, so if you have a pair, you are in luck. On a recent pod cast with Eileen Lewis, Creative Director at zappos.com, she recommends some type of fringed boot. They carry a few cute pairs there. I will have to get one. She also said ballet flats are still in. She also said open toe shoes, though impractical, are “in” this fall. You also can’t go wrong with high black boots. They are everywhere.
This is also a great time to get a facial. Get rid of that dead skin of the summer. I am sure you used sunscreen, wore a hat and sat under an umbrella (wink wink). But if you were like me, I need to clean up my skin. My friend Roxanne, actually performed a small miracle last week. She does this out of her house. She really cleaned out my skin. Now I will maintain it with my pumpkin, almond scrub and chamomile mask.
Speaking of pumpkin- I better go wash the peel of my face-
Happy Fall!

This week I could not come up with one theme. I had a variety of little stories I wanted to share.
When I went to back to school night at my son’s school, I saw Jodi wearing one of those cool trendy Jennifer Aniston style scarves. Made mental note to purchase scarf soon. So when I was in the Boutique Meringue today looking for a funky top for an up coming outing with some high school friends, I saw a huge selection of scarves. One of the owners, I think her name is Karen, was quite pleasant and helped me pick out the cutest scarf and showed me how to wear it. Their price point was reasonable. I look forward to wearing it. Also purchased the funky top I needed.Mauve top with a gold chain by Sky. Karen recommends wearing with skinny jeans.
Had lunch with Michele and her adorable daughter Rebecca this week. She asked me what she needs to purchase this fall. So Michele, please note above. You need a cool scarf to wear with tanks, t-shirts and denim jacket.
Had Lisa and her friend Heather over “to play” makeup. Heather and Lisa both loved an old time favorite atLoose Lips New York, The hint of Mint Lip Gloss. Both purchased the color Mint Sugar Plum. Looked Great. Heather also couldn’t resist theIndispensable Glow in Sexy Glow, while Lisa went for the Tanzanite Gel Liner.
Won in tennis. Played against Lynn. I completely distracted her with my favorite diet secrets. When I told her my latest fav,Morningstar sausage patties (credit to Lisa), she was so hungry, she could not think of anything else. I prefer to crumple them up with an Egg Beater omelet; Lisa recommends making a sausage McMuffin with Light English Muffins. Both are yummy.
Erin from Make Her Up did a review on our Crème shadow in Plumkin. She loves the playfulness and how long it lasted.
After an emergency phone call from Lindsay, my friend Hillary's daughter, I was informed that my favorite show was on- The Biggest Loser. Ah, I love that show. It did not disappoint. I am sure I will be blogging about it in the near future.
Co-hostedmy pod cast with the Fabulous Ms. Eb. Our guest was Elizabeth Cassidy-Personal Life Coach. It is always inspirational to hear motivating words. We had a lot of fun talking with her and asking all of our pressing questions. If you did not get a chance to listen, you can download it and listen at your leisure.
Until Next Week

I will start with the end of the story- On the way home in the car, Barri says to me, "I can't believe you are going to blog about this." I replied, "Don't have dinner withLiz Smith."
I want to preface this blog with what wonderfully, loyal, kind friends Barri and Lisa are.
With that said, I will now report about a recent outing toBesito restaurant. I, being the driver, had Miss Barri and Miss Lisa as passengers. As a request from Miss Lisa's husband, I should liquor her up and bring her home at a reasonable hour. I did not ask questions. Our conversation started off pleasant and informal. Discussing shopping, shoes, and other accessories. We had delicious "homemade" guacamole (no cilantro please) and Margaritas. Yes Ian, she had a double too, you are welcome. Miss Lisa then showed us her newly manicured toes in a hot pink color by Essie. I too had a pedicure the day before in the same color. I remarked how fun the color is for summer, but unfortunately, in 3 weeks we will have to switch colors. Then Miss Barri declared that this color can be worn in September. I boldly disagreed knowing that the fashion police can actually arrest you if you do such a Hannis crime. This is when Miss Lisa (probably feeling her double Margarita) also agreed with Miss Barri on wearing this bright fuscia color in September. After several words back and forth, I gave up and decided if they wanted to be taken to jail for wearing that color it is their decision. I concurred later with fashionista's Robin and Lisa C. who both agreed that it is not worn during September. Robin and I both agreed that you can wear some nice transitional colors like red, light pinks and nudes during September before hitting the Blacks and Burgundy's of fall. I rest my case.
Soon after the nail polish debate, became the Morgan Freeman argument. Somehow the topic of Morgan Freeman cheating on his wife came up, leaving a major table topic of forgiving or kicking the lousy bastard out on his as*. Well after much back and forth discussion, I can only advise Ian and Rich to watch their backs, because their wives would throw them so far out of the house, your head will spin. My overall opinion was that there is always more to the story and you did not know what Mrs. Morgan Freeman could be up to.
On a happy note, both Miss Barri and Miss Lisa viewed some "preview"lipsticks from our fall collection at Loose Lips New York. Miss Barri was leaning towards the copper hues of Pretty Penny, while Miss Lisa preferred the pinkish tone of Bridal Party. Looking forward for the full collection to be up and running shortly.
Then I, the driver, drove Miss Lisa and Miss Barri home.

We always see things like "beauty tips of the stars" or "how to look like a celebrity". But I think the most practical advice you can get is from a friend. And not just any friend, one that looks good too! So I have done a little research lately and have compiled some friendly beauty advice from my beautiful friends.
Over a recent breakfast with my friend Robin G., I had noticed how straight her hair was. Of course, I had to ask "Did you try Brazilian Hair Straightening?" Her response was no, it is the shampoo. She said to use shampoo without sulfates. She then escorted me to the local CVS to show me the different shampoos. Robin G. usesBack to Basics color treated formula with sulfates. She says you must check the bottle- even if it says "all natural" etc., it may still contain sulfates as a primary ingredient. So, I ran over to Ulta and bought a huge bottle of the shampoo and matching conditioner (which BTW was on sale- beauty!). I used this combo today- a very humid day here in NY. Believe it or not- my hair is not too bad. It is not pin straight- but it is not poofed out and unkempt. I give this beauty tip 4 stars.
When Robin C. gives you a beauty tip- you do not walk, but run to your nearest salon, department store or dermatologists office. Her tips range from wear to get a Brazilian Bikini Wax (1 star) , Black Satin Chanel Nail Polish (4 stars) to Laser Hair Removal (5 stars). Her most recent recommendation has been eye makeup. She has recently become a fan of simple bright eyes. Robin C. recommends to put a highlighter along the brow, with a neutral shimmery lid. Robin C. wears Loose Lips NY Delight to achieve that color. She also likes to add a few coats of mascara for a finishing touch. Robin C. says bright light eyes are pretty and youthful. I give this beauty tip 4 stars.
When I interviewed Lianne the Makeup Girl a few months ago, she gave me a few great tips. My favorite by far is to heat your eye lash curler (of course I use theShu Uemura one as per Robin C. from several years back) with your blow drier for 10-15 seconds before suing for a "curling iron" effect. Well, this does work and is so easy to do. Odds are you will be drying your hair and applying your makeup around the same time- so it is very simple. I give this tip 5 stars.
My fellow beauty enthusiast Ebony of Make Me Over Eb, gave some quick easy advice. She is a huge fan of colorful, shiny lips. Ebony loves our lip gel in Knockout. If you are a little afraid of too much color, like my friend Karen, try the lip gel in Destiny - which has a more iridescent tinge to it. Bright shiny lips looks great on all and really does give you a lift. I give this tip 4 stars.
I also recently polled some friends on Facebook and Vox. Adiel says it is very important, when applying foundation, not to stop at the jaw line- but to continue down into your neck. You do not want to look like you are wearing a mask- Good Point Adiel. I give this tip 3 stars. Adrianna of Vox and Kaboodle is a big believer of beautiful skin starts from the inside out. She recommends lots of water, a good nights sleep, eat organic and lots of fiber, and workout and get a good sweat going. She also recommends lots of sunscreen, exfoliate and moisturize. Her most interesting tip was not to sleep on your side. she says this pulls on your skin and truly causes wrinkles. Well, she does have very lovely, youthful skin, so I give her tips 4 stars.
As I get more great tips, I will update this blog. Feel free to share any beauty tips you may have- you know we are all friends here!

Ah! My favorite season is here- Summer! Love the summer. Love sunny days. Love going to the beach. Love going out in the evening at an outdoor cafe or bar and sip on a cool drink. Wearing sandals, sun dresses and shoes without socks! So what do we need to do to prepare?
First- put away the winter clothes and clean out your closets. Yes, Ian, it is time to put away your velour jacket until the fall. You may look handsome in it, but I am still surprised Lisa let you out of the house in June wearing it out to a social gathering. I must go through all my shoes and t shirts. I can't even see what I own. Get rid of items that are worn out and do not fit. If it is a style that you are praying will return from the late 80's- please discard- even if it does come back in style, you may want a new "ID Shirt" or "Frankie Says Relax" T=shirt.
Next- It is the time of year where you will be showing a lot of skin. Make sure you have waxed, shaved and had laser hair removal as needed. Exfoliate your skin and make sure it is silky smooth. Moisturize daily. Also try one with some color or shimmer to it for an extra benefit.
Still time to lose those 5 pounds. Get out and exercise daily. Walk, run, swim, play tennis or ride your bike outdoors. It is so nice and warm and sunny early in the morning now- take advantage of it. It is a lot more fun working out outside then at a gym or in a dark basement. Meet a friend (like my neighbor Sue) and chat while going for your morning walk. Also have been running into my neighbor Kim on her early morning treks. She looks almost done by the time I see her- I wonder what time she is out there hitting the pavement. It is also nice to walk along the beach or boardwalk this time of year. So much more pleasurable than a treadmill any day.
As for diet- I always believe in moderation, but when trying to lose a couple- I think you have to watch a few things. Always eat breakfast- yes Barri- you need to eat breakfast- sorry. I am a big fan of Egg Beaters. Make a yummy veggie omelet in the AM and you are really satisfied through the morning. Also a large ice coffee is great to fill you up on a hot summer afternoon. I also started snacking on Skinny Cow Flying Saucers. For 140 calories and 3 grams of fiber, it is a truly delectable dessert or snack. I just bought the peanut butter/ chocolate flavor (I am a sucker for that combo). I will let you know how that one tastes.
Makeup also needs to change for the summer. Shimmers and Bronzers are perfect this time of year. Dusting Indispensable Glow on your shoulders and chest looks great after a day at the beach. If you do get tan, you will need some bright lip colors to show up on your skin. Also glosses look great with glowing skin tones. Blushes also need to be turned up a little. Colors like Captive and Pink Ice show up nicely on tanner skin. Don't tan? Health conscious or just fair skinned? Try a self tanner or our Face and Body Bronzer for a little color. Use code bronzebabe for 20% off our bronzing products at Loose Lips New York until 7/6/08.
Well, I am off to the beach! Let's get summer off on the right foot- or flip flop.

This time of year can be so busy. So I am here to help you get organized with what you will need this season.
White/Black T shirts/Tanks- Every spring I go out and purchase some new clean and crisp t shirts and tanks. They are perfect to pair up with a pair of jean, mini skirt or Capri's and some sandals for a casual evening out. Always great for layering with other tops. I love this sequined tank from Ivy Blue. Not exactly casual- but so fun and glamorous.
New Specialty Bras- So, to make your new tanks and tops look perfect- get the right bra to wear underneath. A great racer back bra under tanks and a good strapless bra for these new style tube dresses they are showing is a must. I just ordered the Wacoal Racer Back Bra when I just put on my old one and realized it was not doing the trick- if you know what I mean!
Comfortable/ Cute Dress- They are showing a ton of flowing, summery dresses. Find the right look for you. Some may be more comfortable with a long flowing floral style, while others may like a short baby doll style. just make sure you buy something that you will wear. It may look adorable on someone else, but you might not feel right in it. There are so many choices, so you will be able to find a look that is perfect for you.
Flowing/Baby Doll Style Top- I would imagine you will not need a closet filled with these. But a couple for hot summer days or nights would be great. I just bought one from my friend Jane the Tie Dye Lady from Say La Vie. This light weight top will look great with jeans and sandals. Then I can dress it up with a pair of white pants and strappy sandals/heels. I also found a few baby doll style tops that were not too poofy and over powering. Wear with a skinny jean and heels and you are set.
Sandals- My favorite part of the spring turning to summer season is the shoes. I love all forms of sandals-from functional Fit Flops to the new Gladiator Style Flats to Chunky Wedges. I can get enough. Make sure you can walk in ones that you plan on using day to day. Less functional shoes are good for going out to a party or for a romantic dinner. The Gladiator style shoes look adorable with a long summer dress.
Trendy New Spring Bag- The look this spring is fun and colorful. I recently purchased a bright orange bag from Erica at Boutique on Feet. I plan on wearing it ASAP. I bought my mom one in white, but I am sure she will want a colorful one once she sees mine. The Fusion Boutique is also carrying a fun bag- which has teamed up with Loose Lips NY for a special package at a reasonable price. Check it out too.
Makeup- Need a little spring change? Put away your matte neutral brown lipstick and add some color to your look. Don't be afraid of trying some pinks and plums. Same goes for your eyes. Throw out old makeup- especially mascara- the breeding ground for the nastiest bacteria. Some tinted moisturizer with SPF is so important now. With the sun rays beating down on us- how can you not! Also bronzer is a must this time of year- before you have any color, but are wearing the latest spring fashions. Dust some on your cheeks and wear you normally get color and you will look awesome. Eb-from Make Me Over Eb- will be talking about spring makeovers this Friday May 16Th at 2 PM EST on our Pod Cast. Come listen for some more ideas.
OK- I think I gave you enough things for your shopping list! Wait until Summer when I will need to add some more!
Sherry B.
